Volunteer Position Title: Closing Closet Volunteer
Number of Positions: 2-4
Location: TNI (Inpatient Mental Health), Regional Children's Centre, Withdrawal Management, Emara Building

Volunteer Schedule Openings (Days/Hours):
- 2-3 hours per shift,
- between 8-4 Monday-Friday,
- once a week for the set up period
Position Reports to: Lisa DePutter, Sharmaine Tanario-Battagello
Position Summary
- Liaise with clothing closet coordinator on a regular basis to obtain daily assignment and to provide updates on inventory status, challenges and other matters related to the clothing closet
- Straighten and re-organize closet regularly
- Document on prepared spreadsheet and communicate inventory needs to the clothing closet coordinator(s)
- Sort and organize all donations received and identify items that are not suitable
- Re-package unsuitable items for pick-up by community organizations and dispose of items deemed as garbage
- Volunteer will be working independently, with assistance from staff if necessary
Personal Accountability
Dress Code
Adhere to the code/standard/policy of the Department and Hospital, including wearing appropriate Hospital Identification badges.
All volunteers MUST wear their smock/golf shirt buttoned up with the Identification Badge visible and clipped to their smock/golf shirt when volunteering in the hospital.
Maintain a clean and neat appearance.
Attendance
Report for service regularly as scheduled.
Report for service on time and ready to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Record hours on the sign-in station.

Volunteers should report to the staff when on duty.
Specific Accountabilities
Communications
Basic interpersonal communication skills necessary in order to interact courteously and tactfully with physicians, department staff and to respond to patient’s requests. Maintain confidentiality surrounding the activities of the Departments.
Demonstrate commitment and pride by role modeling and by speaking positively about the Healthcare Centre, the department, volunteers, employees, and customers.
Restrictions
- Volunteers are not responsible for patient care. Refer requests to nursing staff.
- Volunteers are not allowed to discuss confidential hospital issues outside the department or the hospital.
- Volunteers are restricted from all personal information on the patient’s chart other than the patient’s name, gender, date of birth or age and Diagnosis.
- Volunteers are not permitted to:
- Take responsibility for patient’s personal belongings.
- Offer opinions or give medical advice.
- Accept an assignment outside volunteer guidelines.
- Assume responsibility for making beds.
- Accept money from patients.
- Enter a room without patient or medical authorization.
- Jeopardize yourself in an unsafe situation.
Volunteer should respect the staff and let them carry out their duties.
